Trail Location & Design
(Two-day session)
This is a popular and fun workshop where attendees have the opportunity to express their creativity and flag in their own trail. We start out with a half-day in the classroom where we discuss the key principles of Great Trails- engineering, water control, the physical forces, and of course, what makes a great trail great. Then to the field where we break into small groups and each group is assigned a trail type to locate. Usually, their only parameters are a start and end point.
On day two, the groups finish their flaglines, then we assemble after lunch and all of the attendees walk each of the flaglines as Dick critiques the location and design. There is a lot of learning here as each group explains their rationale for locating the trail where they did. This is a fun, creative, and interactive exercise.
