The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly Workshop
(One-day session)

This workshop explores actual site conditions on a trail near you. What is working and why? What isn’t working and why not? Through these observations and discussions, basic Great Trails principles are discussed in practical applications. There are no classroom lessons, the entire time is spent in the field. The group walks or rides to pre-identified sites where the group discusses what they see. A popular topic in the full Great Trails Workshop is “How Do I Know If I Have A Problem?” This session explores that topic in the field as we look at facilities, signing, mapping, trail location, trail design, trail management, and trail maintenance. We not only discuss problems, but we also discuss solutions and the staffing and funding involved in implementing those solutions. These topics make it a great workshop for those involved with OHV planning, design, management, or maintenance.
The group learns the site evaluation process:
- What do you see?
- What are the causes?
- What are the issues?
- What are potential solutions?
- What are the pros and cons of each solution?
- What is the group recommended action?
This is a fun, interactive workshop that is packed with on-site learning. It is generally a one-day session depending on travel logistics or the needs of the client. The beauty of this workshop is its simplicity- short length means less travel costs; no classroom means less logistics cost.
