Great Trails
(Two-day session)

Named after the book, this workshop starts off in the classroom where we discuss the principles and framework of Great Trails- how to plan, design, and manage for OHV recreation. We talk about Engineering 101, Water 101, the Physical Forces, finding Opportunities and working within Constraints, Trail and Facility basics, the Keys to a Successful Project, What Makes a Great Trail Great, Location and Design, Flow, How Do I know if I Have a Problem and more. Depending on the client’s desired length for the workshop, the classroom portion is generally a full day, but it could be restructured to fit a half day.
Day two is entirely in the field and involves finding and discussing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly that every trail has (see below). Here we can see the causes and effects of the previous design, location, or management decisions and can explore practical applications of the Great Trails principles discussed in the classroom the day before.
