Manti-La Sal National Forest, Utah
This spectacular setting is the destination recreation playground for the Wasatch Front. With its sensitive resources, there was a need to manage the heavy camp, vehicle, and OHV use. Dick was brought over in 2001 to develop a conceptual OHV management plan that would link the campgrounds with the lakes and provide a place for people to ride their OHVs. Realizing that this was only Phase I of a much bigger system, Dick laid out a 12-mile trail system that met the issues and concerns. After the environmental review was completed, Dick was asked to return in 2004 to do the final trail location, develop a sign plan, and oversee the construction.
